On 13 March 2019 the Neptun Water-Award 2019 was awarded in Vienna, Austria. In the category “Water and Education” PACHDO’s WASH up project won the 2nd place. WASH up was successfully implemented by PACHEDO from 2016-2018 in Gulu and Kole districts. The project was funded by the Austrian Development Agency, the City of Vienna and Dreikönigsaktion (DKA). Representatives of PACHEDO’s long-standing partners HORIZONT3000 and DKA, who funded and supported the project, were present to receive the award from Austrian Minister of Sustainability and Tourism.
Neptune Water-Award is the Austrian Award for environment-friendly and innovative accomplishments in the Water sector. It was first awarded in 1999 to stress the importance of water as a resource for life, environment, economy, science, art and society as a whole. It is awarded by the Austrian Ministry of Sustainability and Tourism, the Austrian Association of Water and Gas Utilities and the Austrian Federation of Water and Waste Management.
In the category “Water and Education” projects were considered which were implemented to raise awareness for and educate people about the importance of water, its sustainable use and the protection of water resources. PACHEDO’s WASH up project convinced the jury with its holistic approach of working with children as change agents, with schools as well as with neighbouring communities to achieve long-lasting behaviour change.
